Fundamentals of Photography – Class Section #101-M

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This six-week, 3 1/2 hour per week, seven session class is designed for the beginner who have recently purchased a 35mm or digital SLR camera or for people looking for a refresher on technique. Learn about exposure, shutter speeds and f/stops. Learn composition techniques such as: the Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, S curves, C curves and Light Isolates. The use of filters and flash and of various film types. Learn about travel photography, portraiture, close-ups and how to overcome full automation in today’s cameras.

Any 35mm or digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera that can be adjusted for manual operation as well as automatic exposure mode is welcome in class; so long as it is not an automatic only exposure camera. (No point and shoot cameras permitted) Expect homework assignments!

Do not be misled. The word fundamental in the title does not mean elementary photography. People who have shot photographs for many years would still benefit from this class just as much as a beginner. The digital photographer will learn about the merits of RAW files compared to JPEG or TIF, white balance and histograms.

Basic Photoshop – Class Section #201-G

WORKSHOP INFO:

  • Class covers Photoshop CS5
  • Students are provided with a class textbook and videos for use at home
    to reinforce class topics.
  • Course includes one bonus all day session to allow students to apply the Photoshop techniques learned in class to their own images and make prints up to 13″x19″ using MPW’s Epson printers.
  • Enrollment is limited to 9 students.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This six-week course is designed for the photographer (as opposed to the graphic designer) desiring to acquire skills necessary to digitally manipulate image files. While every photo and every photographer is different, it is no exaggeration to say that, in the vast majority of cases, using Photoshop can improve any image. Used by professionals and nonprofessionals alike, Photoshop is the ultimate playground for bringing out the best in your digital images and transforming them into anything you can imagine!

Although Photoshop CS5 is a deep and powerful program, its benefits are immediately accessible to the motivated beginner if he or she is given its most user friendly features first and shown the correct path going forward. Students will be shown how to make their images of people, nature, landscape, architecture, products, etc. yield maximum impact, detail, and technical quality in an efficient and nondestructive manner. The goal is to teach the correct principles behind the techniques so that going forward students can confidently progress on their own. Students who complete the course will be well grounded in the most important and powerful features of Photoshop and exposed to the fundamentals of image editing on a professional level.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This one-day workshop will provide students with the information necessary to shoot and edit simple video with a Digital Single Lens Reflex still camera. It does not matter which brand of camera you have: Nikon, Canon, Sony etc. So long as your still camera can shoot some video. Students will learn simple editing techniques using Adobe Premier Elements as well.
