CMN Training & Services - 10 Week Production Certification Series

CMN offers an incredible, 10-session training course that will teach you all the necessary skills to produce your own television program. Audio, lighting, directing, editing...it's all here. Once you're certified, all of CMN's equipment and staff will be at your disposal to create your "perfect" production. Just one night per week for two hours, in an open and relaxed learning environment!

In just 10 weeks you will be certified to use:   • CMN's field production video equipment
• CMN's studio production facility
• CMN's Apple Final Cut Express non-linear editing suites
 
 

 
The equipment available to Resident and Non-Profit members after completion of the 10 Week Production Certification Series is as follows:

2 Production Studios at our Troy facility:
The CMN Main Studio is 880 sq. ft., and the CMN Conference Room/Studio is 728 sq. ft. Both studios have complete lighting, numerous props, flats and furniture pieces. The CMN Conference Room/Studio features a 6' projection screen and surround sound audio. Theatre seating (50+), or meeting style with tables (20-30).

The CMN Control Room features:
NewTek VT5 computer integrated production suite, Mackie SR-24 channel audio mixing board.

Green Room:
Available for guests participating in studio shoots.

Checkout Field Equipment:
For use at the location of your choice, CMN offers 6 Sony DSR-PDX10 MiniDV cameras. The PDX10 features DV SP or DVCam recording, XLR audio inputs, native 16:9 video, as well as manual shutter, white balance and exposure controls.

Edit Suites A & B:
Each station features a 2GHz Intel Core Duo Macintosh Computer, featuring iMovie, Final Cut Express HD 3.5, a JVC miniDV / S-VHS "combo" deck with monitor and headphones.

Power Mac Edit Suite:
iMovie and Final Cut Express HD 3.5 running on a Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 Macintosh with 4.5 GB of RAM. Featuring a JVC miniDV / S-VHS "combo" deck with monitor and headphones. NEW: Voice-over area with sound insulation panels, AKG microphone, pop filter and Alesis FireWire audio mixer.

2 Mobile Production Vans:
The vans are equipped for shoots requiring 1 to 5 cameras. Our mobile production vans feature a Grass Valley 110 switcher, Mackie SR-16 channel audio mixing board, AVS Graphics Titler, Slo-Mo replay deck and intercom/announcer headsets.

Dub Tower:
Transfer or make copies in many tape formats. Currently supported media formats include MiniDV, DVD, S-VHS, 3/4" and Hi8mm.

NewTek TriCaster Pro*:
A "studio-in-a-box." The TriCaster features: live switching of 3 cameras, 200+ transitions, titles, audio mixing, iVGA™ graphics import, integrated VCR clip playback, timed picture playback, live keying, along with tons of other features.

*Use of the TriCaster is conditioned upon completion of the Production Certification Series and TriCaster Certification Training.

Your CMN Public Access experience begins with a no-obligation 90-minute orientation. This time provides an introduction to CMN and is a prerequisite for the 10-week course. Orientation is free and open to the public.
